The Flying Tigers were the American Volunteer Group (AVG), a unit of American volunteer pilots and ground crews who helped defend China against Japanese forces during World War II. Led by Claire Lee Chennault, they flew Curtiss P-40 fighters bearing the iconic shark-mouth design. Entering combat in December 1941, they became known for their daring tactics and success against larger enemy forces.
Although the original Flying Tigers operated for only a brief period before disbanding in July 1942, their impact endured. They helped protect vital supply routes, defended Chinese cities, and boosted morale during a difficult chapter of the war. Their courage, teamwork, and distinctive aircraft made the Flying Tigers one of the most recognizable groups in aviation history.
Flying Tigers Aviation operates an all-diesel fleet of fuel trucks to support dependable aircraft fueling at Chino Airport. As we serve our pilots and guests, we recognize the importance of environmental responsibility, and the role thoughtful ground operations play in the future of aviation.
